Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
